Sechelt Hospital's South Tower will experience a 12-hour "electrical shutdown" Saturday night as a new emergency generator is installed.
The outage will not affect the Emergency Department or other North Tower facilities and smaller generators and large-capacity batteries will support the South Tower through the evening and night, said a Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) statement. The outage is expected last from 6 p.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday.
"Vancouver Coastal Health has engaged in extensive planning and stakeholder engagement to ensure minimal disruptions for our patients. Comprehensive contingency plans and mitigation strategies have been developed to prioritize patient care," said a VCH statement. "Vancouver Coastal Health is committed to delivering safe and high-quality care through this electrical shutdown."
The health authority encourages community members to seek emergency care if they need it.
