After 10 years of Patrick Bocking leading the Sunshine Coast School District No. 46 (SD46) as superintendent, Kate Kerr will be taking on the position starting Aug. 1.
“We look forward to welcoming Kate Kerr to her new position in the district, which will benefit from her established presence in our district and her visionary leadership,” School Board chair Amanda Amaral said in a June 2 release.
Kerr was selected after a nation-wide search, the press release states, and has already worked at SD46 for a decade.
Kerr is the director of instruction for inclusive education at SD46, and previously served as the principal at Chatelech Secondary and West Sechelt Elementary, vice principal at Elphinstone Secondary as well as a student support services teacher.
She also has experience working in the Langley School District.
“It has been my privilege and honour to work with all of the learning communities that make up our wonderful Sunshine Coast school district,” Kerr said.
“I am excited to embrace my new role as superintendent of schools and look forward to continuing and strengthening my partnership with students, staff, parents, caregivers and community partners of Sunshine Coast schools.”
Bocking announced his retirement in January 2021.
