With the Sunshine Coast under a multi-day heat warning that could last into Thursday – and as temperatures reach 30C at lower altitudes – and with no rain in the short-term forecast, the Sunshine Coast Regional District provided a mid-week water supply update for users.
The Chapman Water System is relying mainly on Chapman Lake – which was at 59 per cent storage capacity as of Aug. 14 – for its supply, with contributions from Church Road and Chaster Well, said an Aug. 15 release.
Church Road Well Field is supplying the system with 15 to 25 litres per second, about 1.3 million to 2.1 million litres per day. (Put another way, that’s 1,300 to 2,100 cubic metres a day.) SCRD staff is working on getting that supply up to 4.5 million litres a day, said the release.
The Gray Creek water source that had been taken offline after rainfall-caused turbidity last week is back online.
The Chapman Water System and South Pender Harbour water systems remain at Stage 3 restrictions, Eastbourne is at Stage 4 and Egmont, Cove Cay, and North Pender Harbour, Langdale, Soames Point, and Granthams Landing are at Stage 1. Gibsons, which is not on SCRD water, remains at Stage 1.
There’s a virtual water update for business owners and operators, hosted by the SCRD, the Sunshine Coast Regional Economic Development Organization and Sunshine Coast Tourism at 9 a.m. Aug. 16.
