For the seventh year in a row, the Canadian award for financial reporting has been awarded to the Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its annual financial report - one of only two awarded to regional districts.

The Canadian award for financial reporting program was established to encourage municipal governments throughout Canada to publish high quality financial reports and to provide peer recognition and technical guidance for officials preparing these reports. Its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

The award was presented to the corporate services department at the SCRD for its 2009 annual financial report. The report has been judged by impartial Canadian review committee members to meet the high standards of the program, including demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" designed to clearly communicate the SCRD's financial information and to motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.

"We're very proud to receive this award for the seventh consecutive year," said SCRD chief administrative officer John France in a news release. "The SCRD is committed to pursuing operational excellence, and it is important to recognize our finance division who work so hard every day to achieve it."
