Schedule uncertain after accident

A ferry crash in Horseshoe Bay Thursday morning left travellers and workers at the Langdale terminal bracing for delays this holiday weekend.

A ferry crash in Horseshoe Bay Thursday morning left travellers and workers at the Langdale terminal bracing for delays this holiday weekend.

The Queen of Oak Bay crashed into the marina adjacent to the Horseshoe Bay dock, crushing docked pleasure boats, when it arrived from Nanaimo around 10 a.m., the day before a busy Canada Day travel weekend.

Langdale terminal spokesperson Nathan Maddrell said the Queen of Surrey managed to leave the Horseshoe Bay dock for its 11:45 a.m. departure to Langdale Thursday, before the Horseshoe Bay terminal shut down.

At press time, the Queen of Surrey was to remain in Langdale until Maddrell received word of the Horseshoe Bay terminal re-opening.

He didn't know how the crash would affect weekend travel schedules.

Travellers are advised to check schedules for delays this weekend at the B.C. Ferries website at www.bcferries.com or by calling 1-888-223-3779.
