ReStore celebrates one-year anniversary

Habitat for Humanity's Sunshine Coast ReStore is celebrating its first birthday with a big celebration event on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Habitat for Humanity's Sunshine Coast ReStore is celebrating its first birthday with a big celebration event on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Located across from Canadian Tire on Highway 101, the ReStore's first year of operations has been a great success in helping Habitat raise money for the building of affordable housing on the Coast. The ReStore specializes in selling new and used building materials, fixtures and large appliances to the public at significant discounts, and Gibsons Building Supplies has brought in beautiful new countertops from Mega Countertops to be sold at the event.

"We would like to thank all the sponsors, supporters and customers of the ReStore for their valuable contributions in making this store such a success, and we look forward to another great year," said Charlie Russell, chair of the Board of Directors of the Sunshine Coast's Habitat affiliate. "Along with our recycling program, the ReStore has been a major cornerstone in Habitat's local fundraising activities. You aren't just buying a countertop, you are helping to build affordable homes here on the Coast."

Saturday's event will include walking tours of the new Sunshine Coast Village project, which is just down the highway from the ReStore. The SC Village is Habitat's project to build 14 townhomes over seven years at the Wilson Creek location. Visitors can adopt a tree to be placed on the site as part of the carefully designed landscaping of the Village community. A video kiosk will feature information on this project and about Habitat for Humanity on the Sunshine Coast, including membership and volunteering opportunities. There will also be a barbecue providing hot dogs and soft drinks, and rain or shine the event will go ahead.
