Despite an official rain and wind warning, the skies cleared Monday as hundreds gathered in downtown Sechelt to pay their respects on Remembrance Day.
At 10:30 a.m., members of the Royal Canadian Legion, veterans, police, firefighters, search and rescue, cadets and local dignitaries gathered outside of the Sechelt Legion, before marching to the cenotaph.
Led by Bill McLean, president of the Sechelt Legion, and accompanied by flag bearers, a bagpiper and drummer, the parade marched down Inlet Street before turning onto Cowrie, where the crowd parted to allow the marchers to pass towards the cenotaph, where members of the 2963 Seaforth Highlanders of Canada Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps stood vigil.
After a short ceremony and prayer, two minutes of silence were observed, before wreaths were laid at the bottom of the cenotaph. A separate cross held a poppy for each of the local veterans and members of the Legion who had passed since last Remembrance Day.
