Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following this week:
Sometime between Saturday evening Jan. 23 and Sunday morning, Jan. 24, a Sea-do was stolen from the front lawn of a residence located on Trail Avenue in Sechelt. The Sea-do is very distinguishable, painted dark blue with a skull on the side. At the time of the theft, the Sea-do was perched on top of a trailer, however, this trailer was not stolen.
Sunshine Coast RCMP are requesting assistance from the public in solving this crime. Anyone with information about this theft or the current location of the stolen Sea-do are asked to call the detachment at 604-885-2266 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
On Jan. 25, a member of the public reported a boat washed up on the shore of an island in Madeira Park. Coast guard auxiliary responded and located an 18-foot runabout boat that was stuck on a small island south-east of Edgecombe Island. Coast guard found two persons with the boat who advised that they were related to the boat owner. They had rowed over to the boat after realizing it had broken free from their dock in the strong wind and waves overnight. The coast guard was able to dislodge the boat from the rocks and towed it back to the dock.
"The RCMP would like to reinforce the importance of reporting such incidents to the authorities," said Const. David Dixon in a news release. "The RCMP would also like to thank the coast guard auxiliary for their excellent service and assistance."
A vandal spray painted graffiti on a building in the 5600 block of Mason Road overnight Jan. 18/19. There has been an on-going problem with mischief in the area. Anyone with any information is asked to contact RCMP, or Crimestoppers.
An abandoned boat was reported moored in the water near the 4800 block of Bowsprit Drive since Jan. 12. The boat has two names on it, one of which is Joy Toy. Anyone with any info about this boat may contact RCMP, reference file 10-492.
Thieves broke into a residence in the 2700 block of Roy Road sometime Jan. 21 and stole a 46" Sony Bravia TV and a Dell laptop computer. The thieves entered the premises by prying open a sliding door. A white older model pick-up truck had been seen around the area earlier during the day, but no other details were obtained by witnesses. Anyone with any info about this break-in is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 09-539.
A four-vehicle incident occurred Highway 101 westbound near Pratt Road after the first car stopped suddenly for a deer crossing the road. This started a four-vehicle chain of rear-enders. None of the drivers or passengers required medical attention, and only one vehicle had to be towed from the scene. The matter is now with ICBC.
A shoplifter was caught at a business in the 900 block of Gibsons Way on Jan. 21 after staff witnessed the suspect conceal items in his clothing and leave the store. The suspect was apprehended without incident. Due to the suspect's age and lack of criminal history, the matter is being referred to Restorative Justice.
A witness called in a possible impaired driver and provided police with the vehicle licence plate, description of car and driver and direction of travel. A member located the suspect vehicle in the 3800 block of Port Mellon Highway and pulled it over. The driver exhibited signs of intoxication and evidence of alcohol was located inside the vehicle. The driver was taken to the detachment for processing and the vehicle was towed. The file is still under investigation.
A two-vehicle collision occurred in the intersection of Winn Road and Gower Point Road. The first vehicle stopped at the stop sign and proceeded through the intersection when it was struck by a second vehicle. It was determined that the second vehicle did not make a complete stop at the stop sign before proceeding into the intersection. There were no injuries, but the first vehicle sustained significant damage. The driver of the second vehicle was issued a violation ticket for failing to stop at a stop sign. The matter is now with ICBC.
A member witnessed a vehicle spin its tires out before speeding through the intersection of Pratt Road and Gibsons Way. The member initiated a traffic stop and a roadside alcohol sensor device was used to determine the driver was intoxicated. The vehicle was towed and the driver was taken to the detachment. The file is still under investigation.
A witness called in a mischief complaint on Jan. 24 after hearing the sound of breaking glass and seeing two youth running away from an address in the 5800 block of Cowrie Street. The attending member located a group of youth nearby who admitted to drinking bottled beverages and smashing two of the bottles. The youth were instructed to pick up the broken glass, which they did cooperatively, and were then sent home.
