It’s bad enough Canadians aren’t getting their mail due to the ongoing strike by Canada Post workers, but now thieves are using the disruption in an attempt to scam anyone not paying attention.

Canada Post scam

Sunshine Coast RCMP wants the public to be especially suspicious of any text messages received relating to Canada Post and possible package deliveries. There has been an exponential rise in fraud attempts since the postal strike started in October, including phishing, a tactic in which an email or text looks like it has come from Canada Post or other legitimate delivery companies.

Prohibited driver

On Nov. 24, police conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle on Field Road and determined the driver was prohibited from driving Canada-wide, due to multiple traffic convictions out of Ontario. As the driver was also breaching his parole, he was arrested on a Correctional Services of Canada warrant and charged with prohibited driving from the initial traffic stop. The 23-year-old male was held in custody and then transported to a correctional facility in the Lower Mainland.
