British Columbians are encouraged to nominate those who make a difference in their communities for the fourth annual Community Achievement Awards, announced last week by Premier Gordon Campbell and British Columbia Achievement Foundation chair Keith Mitchell.

"In my years of public life, I've been fortunate to meet many wonderful people who go above and beyond for their communities," Campbell said in a news release. "They are in all corners of our province, from all walks of life, and they make amazing contributions to enhance the quality of life of those around them. They represent the best of B.C. and we want to recognize them with the Community Achievement Awards."

The deadline for nominations for the 2007 Community Achievement Awards is Nov. 15. For more information on the nomination process or to obtain a nomination form, please visit www.bcachievement.com or call 1-604-261-9777 or toll-free 1-866-882-6088. Forms are also available at government agent offices, public libraries and municipal offices. Nominations will be reviewed by an independent advisory council of community leaders. The council will select the recipients of the awards based on the impact of the individuals' contribution, as well as factors such as uniqueness, commitment, leadership and length of service. The winners of the 2007 British Columbia Community Achievement Awards will be awarded a uniquely British Columbian medallion, designed by B.C. artist Robert Davidson, at a ceremony to be held in Victoria in the spring of 2007.

The British Columbia Achievement Foundation is an independent foundation established with an initial endowment of $6 million from the Province to celebrate excellence in community service, arts and the humanities. As well as the community awards, the foundation offers the B.C. Creative Achievement Awards and the B.C. Award for Canadian Non-Fiction.
