Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Dec. 26 to Jan. 4:
The 800 block of Gibsons way was hit with a rash of break and enters and thefts during the tail end of December.
On Dec. 29, a theft from a secured storage area in a building was reported to police. The suspect stole a large number of items including a Makita five-battery pack, circular saw, disc sander, multitool, tool attachments kit, impact drill, jigsaw, and assorted hand tools. Also stolen were two condenser microphones, a black Crybaby brand wah pedal, and a white Boss DD8 model digital delay pedal. Anyone with any information about this break and enter is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2020-8936.
Days earlier, between Dec. 23 and 25, a suspect cut off the locks and gained entry to a secured storage area at a residential building in the same stretch of Gibsons Way. The suspect moved two expensive bikes from the locker but left them behind in a different location in the same building. At this time, no actual theft appears to have occurred. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2020-8970.
And sometime in late December, a suspect gained access to lock boxes located at businesses in the 800 block of Gibsons Way. The lock boxes contained keys for a number of businesses at a shared location but it’s not yet known which businesses may have been affected. Anyone with any information about these incidents is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2020-8942 or 2020-8953.
Theft
• On Dec. 30, a theft occurred at a business in the 1100 block of Highway 101, Gibsons. The suspects were captured on surveillance camera. The police are reviewing the footage and the file is still under investigation. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 2020-8979.
Fraud
• On Dec. 31, police received a report of fraud after an employer e-transferred funds to what he believed was the employee’s cell phone number. After the e-transfer was accepted by the owner of the cell phone number, the employer’s number was blocked. It was later learned that the employee had changed their number and funds were accepted fraudulently by a third party. The file is still under investigation. Public Mischief
• On Jan. 2, police were on scene at the 6500 block of Norwest Bay Rd, Sechelt responding to a suspicious circumstance when a resident called 911 to report a couple arguing and the sound of gunshots at the same location. Police on scene at the time determined the call was made to impede police in their duties. Police arrested the suspect and the file is still under investigation.
Property Found
• On Dec. 29, a cell phone found on Highway 101 near Francis Peninsula Road, Madeira Park, was turned in to police. The owner may claim within 90 days after providing a detailed description. Please reference police file 2020-8939.
• On Dec. 29, a bike found in Sechelt was turned in to police. Owner may claim within 90 days after providing a detailed description. Please reference police file 2020-8938.
