Canada Post community mailboxes from Sechelt to Pender Harbour were targeted days before Christmas by thieves who used pry tools to gain entry. Sunshine Coast RCMP said the detachment received numerous reports on Dec. 20 of vandalized mailboxes in Sechelt, Half-moon Bay and Madeira Park.
“It is unknown exactly how much mail was stolen, but the suspects left behind evidence that they’d ripped open parcels and envelopes,” police said.
The sites hit were: 10100 Mercer Road, Halfmoon Bay (twice); 9300 Truman Road, Halfmoon Bay; Brooks Road and Sunshine Coast Highway, Halfmoon Bay; Curran Road and Sunshine Coast Highway, Halfmoon Bay; Bryan Road and Sunshine Coast Highway, Madeira Park; and 6000 Fairway Avenue, Sechelt.
Anyone with information about the incidents is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 2017-8369. The file is still under investigation.
