A family of three black bears surprised West Sechelt resident Cindy Richard on July 25.

As Cindy Richard walked from her West Sechelt home to her art studio, she didn't see them at first – but the three black bears quickly caught her attention.

"Luckily they were more interested in my blackberries than anything else!" Richard wrote in an email to Coast Reporter. She walked inside and snapped a photo of the bears from inside her laundry room.

The trio have been around for at least a month, Richard said, but she's never seen them this close. Her property is on three acres, so the bears have room to roam. Richard said she doesn't know how young the cubs are, but the mother looks as though she is still nursing the pair.
