On Nov. 19, Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) voters elected Garry Nohr for Area B (Halfmoon Bay), Lorne Lewis for Area E (Elphinstone) and Lee Turnbull for Area F (West Howe Sound).

On Nov. 19, Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) voters elected Garry Nohr for Area B (Halfmoon Bay), Lorne Lewis for Area E (Elphinstone) and Lee Turnbull for Area F (West Howe Sound).

In Area B, 29 per cent of eligible electors went to the polls, resulting in 392 votes for Nohr and 187 votes for incumbent director John Marian.

"When I was told how overwhelming it was, I was impressed and thanked the people who spent lots of time trying to help me," Nohr said. "I campaigned on listening and working co-operatively with people and that's what I intend to do."

Nohr's alternate director has not yet been determined.

"I just want to thank all those people who got out and voted and felt that I could do the job," Nohr said. "I want to thank John Marian for the six years he put in and I hope to do as well for the community also."

After wearing the Area B director's hat for two terms, Marian will not be returning to the board table.

"Serving as an SCRD director has been overwhelmingly a rewarding experience," Marian said. "I've learned a great deal, had an opportunity to work with a staff I can only characterize as dedicated and highly competent, and become more competent in a number of areas. The two boards I've served on have achieved a good many necessary and worthwhile objectives for the community."

Marian's short-term plans are to record a music CD, write, catch up on his gardening and carpentry and take his dog out for more walks.

"Regardless of how it was interpreted, and I am sure it varied, I am particularly satisfied in having steadfastly brought contentious matters to public light in whatever way I could," Marian said.

Lewis received 372 votes, Robert Corlett 331 and Eleonora Molnar 128, of the 30 per cent of electors in Area E.Once Lewis fully recovers from a recent hernia operation, hopefully in about a week, he plans to familiarize himself with SCRD protocol and "getting to know the community as a director and finding out what people want to get done," he said.

"I don't have anything that I'm driving to accomplish other than to make government processes accessible to our electorate," Lewis said. "I got into this because people thought I would be a good representative for them and several people asked me to run. There is no driving desire on my part to change the place."

Further along the Coast, the 28 per cent turnout of Area F electors voted by a 62-vote majority for Turnbull with 295 votes, while Bill Hubbs received 233 votes."I was pleased that my community wants me to represent them again," Turnbull said.Turnbull has many goals she hopes to achieve in her term, with a big priority being the land and resource management plan."Getting to know the new board is a big priority too and starting to figure out how we can work together," she said. As Turnbull has been a regional director before, she is familiar with committee structures, so for her, it's a matter of getting caught up, she said. Her alternate director will be John Lockwood."I wanted to thank everybody who voted for me and who supported me by working for my campaign and I'll try to represent the community the best way I can," Turnbull said.
