B.C. Ferries and the Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) have teamed up to construct a new walking route for foot passengers accessing the Langdale terminal from Lower Gibsons.
The foot path opened on Sept. 22, and provides enhanced access and egress for foot passengers to the foot passenger-baggage drop-off area of the terminal.
The SCRD partnered with B.C. Ferries on this project.
Area F (West Howe Sound) gas tax funds were used to install the new foot path along the western perimeter of the terminal to the intersection at the entrance of the terminal. B.C. Ferries installed an adjoining sidewalk from the pick-up and drop-off area along the exit lanes to the intersection.
"Pedestrian safety is certainly a common interest of both B.C. Ferries and the SCRD and we were pleased to work with SCRD parks department and Area F on this important project," said Mike Corrigan, B.C. Ferries' chief operating officer. "Completion of the new pedestrian sidewalks greatly improves safety for customers as well as enhances security at the terminal.
"All foot passengers travelling to and from Lower Gibsons will now be directed to use this safe walking route."
