It took less than eight minutes for the Sunshine Coast Regional Hospital board to finalize its 2025 budgets and tax requisition amounts and to hold in camera discussions on “proposed provision of a municipal service."

No indication was given about the “proposed” new service except the meeting agenda indicated that it is one that is being negotiated with the province.

The board took this year's budget from first reading to adoption at its meeting on March 20. A report included on the meeting agenda noted that “the Tax Requisition for 2025 is $1,716,442, which amounts to a $206,628 increase from 2024. The primary driver for the change is a $130,000 increase in minor capital equipment (equipment valued below $150,000) that was approved at the January 16, 2025 SCRHD Board meeting”.

Also impacting the 2025 spending plan is a projected decrease in investment income, according to the report. Forecast is a total from that source of $135,500 this year, down $47,244 from 2024. “The decline in expected investment income is reflective of the projected change in interest rate conditions,” the report detailed.
