A special ceremony was held last Wednesday to celebrate the induction of Rev. Peter van der Leelie as the new rector of St. Bart's Church.
Members of the Anglican parish of St. Aidan and St. Bartholomew were joined by a large number of clergy from the Lower Mainland and other parts of B.C., plus clergy and parishioners from other churches on the Sunshine Coast.
The Rt. Rev. Michael Ingham, Bishop of the Diocese of New Westminster, presided at the service, held at St. Bart's Church in Gibsons.
During the induction, van der Leelie was presented with a number of symbols of his ministry in the church by parishioners, including a Bible, holy oil, canons of the church, the keys to the church, a hymn book and the bread and wine of the Eucharist.
After the service, a reception was held in the church hall. Light refreshments were served by the parish, with a cake to celebrate the induction. During the reception, parishioners and guests were able to circulate and get to know each other better.
