BC Transit is sending four new HandyDart buses to the Sunshine Coast to replace older models in the Sunshine Coast Transit fleet.
The ARBOC Spirit of Mobility models have better accessibility options than the older models and can be customized to fit the needs of specific transit services.
According to BC Transit, each bus costs approximately $240,000.
Under its agreement with BC Transit the Sunshine Coast Regional District covers 33 per cent of the operating cost of the HandyDart service, which includes things like driver wages, lease fees, maintenance, and fuel.
Bowinn Ma, the parliamentary secretary for Transportation and Infrastructure, said the upgraded HandyDart buses are part of the province’s commitment “to making BC Transit service more accessible… The new Spirit of Mobility buses will make it easier for people with disabilities to safely get on and off the bus.”
BC Transit has already provided six new Vicinity model buses for the Sunshine Coast Transit fleet as part of the recent service expansion.
