School District No. 46 (SD46) has appointed Dan Galazka to the position of district principal, student support services.

Galazka will be leaving his position of district department head, student services, in the North Vancouver School District and will assume the duties of the present principal, Debbie Amaral, who will be retiring from SD46 after 30 years' service.

"Dan is familiar with the Sunshine Coast school district. He has spent four years as the autism consultant for the provincial outreach program for autism and taught teacher and SETA courses in our school district," said Tom Hierck, assistant superintendent, in a news release. "We look forward to having him join our administrative team."

Galazka holds a masters in educational psychology/special education and is currently an educational leadership and policy candidate as he pursues his doctorate of education. He has more than 25 years of varied educational experience as a teacher, consultant and co-ordinator in both elementary and secondary schools from kindergarten through Grade 12 in learning assistance and gifted programs.

"The board is excited to have found someone to fit this integral role," added board chair Silas White. "We thank Debbie for the amazing job she has done in our district over the years and welcome Dan to the Sunshine Coast."
