The three major federal parties now have candidates in place for the riding of West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast-Sea to Sky Country and are set for an election run.

The New Democrats nominated Terry Platt as their candidate during a nomination meeting and annual general meeting of the NDP Riding Association last Sunday, Nov. 7, at the Glen Eagles Community Centre in West Vancouver.

Platt joins current Conservative member of Parliament John Weston and Liberal Party candidate Dan Veniez on the election ballot for the riding.

Platt said she would be speaking out for fairness and progressive policy.

"I will do my best for the people of West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast-Sea to Sky Country and the New Democrats that put their trust in me," Platt said.

Platt is a long-time progressive activist in West Vancouver. She has been a provincial candidate in two elections for the NDP in West Vancouver-Capilano. Platt and her husband Ron have lived in West Vancouver for 18 years. She works for B.C. Ferries.

She said she has a strong commitment to social justice and is a strong supporter of public health care, both of which are fundamental to the way Canada defines itself as a nation.

Following the nomination meeting, the new riding association executive was elected. Charles Burns is the new association president replacing Bill Forst, who resigned as the riding's candidate earlier this year. Barrie MacLeod and Charlotte Mallory were elected vice president, Lois McCready is treasurer and Platt was elected secretary.
