Sunshine Coast Search and Rescue (SAR) used a rope rescue to save a man after a fall on Wednesday.

In the early morning hours of April 1, police received a report of a missing person somewhere in the Sechelt/Gray creek forest service road area.

According to Const. Josh Talbot, when police arrived, the complainant was parked on the roadway near the Gray Creek crossing. She stated she had verbal contact with the missing man, but was unable to locate him.

"Police were able to locate the missing person who had fallen down a large embankment, injuring himself," said Talbot. "Due to the extreme terrain, police were unable to get to the male, but remained in verbal contact with him until the Sunshine Coast Search and Rescue team arrived."

Talbot said the SAR team put their rope rescue members to work, lowering themselves down the embankment, and assisted the male with the ascent back to the roadway.

"The male stated his ordeal began when his car had broken down several kilometres up the roadway," Talbot said. "He was attempting to walk out of the woods when he fell off the road down a steep embankment."

The man was transported to St. Mary's Hospital and treated for exposure and minor injuries. He has since been released.
