Man facing trafficking charges

A 43-year-old Sechelt man is facing possible trafficking charges after Sunshine Coast RCMP made an arrest on Jan. 28. Last Friday RCMP conducted a search warrant at a home near the 5700 Block of Sechelt Inlet Road where the man was arrested.

Last Friday RCMP conducted a search warrant at a home near the 5700 Block of Sechelt Inlet Road where the man was arrested. During the arrest, RCMP seized several different types of drugs and Canadian currency. Police are still investigating.

Sometime between Jan. 15 to 21 a thief broke into a boathouse in the 12800 block of Alexander Road. The thief entered the boathouse through the open waterside and broke into a locked storage cupboard. The thief stole a variety of scuba diving equipment.

A number of complaints about suspicious sales came in after two men in a Dodge mini-van tried to sell stereo equipment to people in various parking lots around town. Officers located the van and spoke with the salesmen who were able to provide documentation for the items they were selling. While this business in not illegal, potential clients are warned to be very sure they understand the terms of any such sales and to always exercise caution when buying items through unorthodox means.

On Jan. 26, a shoplifter was witnessed stealing an orange and grey jacket from a business in the 1100 block of Highway 101. The thief fled the business and drove off in a white MPV van. The thief is described as a small Caucasian female, approximately 30 to 40 yrs old, five feet tall, with dark black hair in a ponytail and sores on her face.

On Jan. 26, a shoplifter was reported after fleeing from a business in the 900 block of Gibsons Way. A witness was able to provide a description of the getaway vehicle and police located the suspect vehicle shortly afterwards. All three males were detained for investigation and found to be in possession of alcohol that had been reported stolen earlier from another business in the 900 block of Gibsons Way. One of the males was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

An impaired driver was caught after a vehicle pulled out suddenly in front of a marked police car on Highway 101 near Pratt Road. The vehicle continued on in an erratic manner before the police officer pulled it over. The driver and lone occupant showed signs of impairment and admitted to having consumed alcohol a short time earlier. The driver agreed to and failed a roadside alcohol screen test. The driver was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and her vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

On Jan. 26, thieves smashed windows on a house and car in the 300 block of Hough Road and gained access into an unlocked building stealing a chainsaw. The thieves used rocks and a hammer found on scene to cause most of the damage. No entry into the main house was gained, and the chainsaw was recovered nearby.

RCMP and the Gibsons fire department responded to a pair of accidents on Thursday, Jan. 27.

The first was around 4:30 p.m. and was a three-car accident on Highway 101 across from the Gibsons Medical Clinic. Gibsons fire Chief Bob Stevens said firefighters helped assist one person from one of the vehicles who was then taken to hospital for treatment and also helped with traffic control. Steven described the accident as "minor" in nature.

Just after 6 p.m. Thursday night, firefighters and RCMP responded to a two-vehicle accident in the 500 block of Abbs Road after a vehicle backing out of a driveway struck a second vehicle which was backing out its driveway across the street. The second vehicle had just been put into drive when it was rear-ended by the first vehicle and was pushed forward, through the already closed garage door and into a wall. The second vehicle suffered significant damage and the first vehicle had to be towed away as well. The driver of the first vehicle was issued a violation ticket. No injuries were reported.

On Jan. 28, vandals shot paint balls at two vehicles driving on Highway 101. The first incident occurred around Flume Road. A paint ball hit the vehicle once, but no damage occurred. The second incident occurred near Nestman Road, and the vehicle was hit by two paint balls, denting the body and damaging the paint. No one was injured in these incidents.
