A 22-year-old man was found dead in Ruby Lake in the early morning of Jan. 2.
Sunshine Coast RCMP were called at about 1 a.m. on Jan. 2 by friends worried about the man, who they had been with earlier and who had been missing from a cabin on Ruby Lake for several hours, said Staff Sgt. Poppy Hallam in a statement to Coast Reporter
“While on route, police were notified that the male was found deceased in the water near the cabin from an apparent drowning,” Hallam said.
RCMP, BC Coroner's Service and the Egmont and District Volunteer Fire Department attended the scene and recovered the body. The man was not a Sunshine Coast resident.
This is the second death at the lake in as many years. In June 2020, a 29-year-old-man died of carbon monoxide poisoning at an isolated cabin on the west side of the lake.
Foul play isn’t suspected the BC Coroner’s Service are investigating.
