A 57-year-old Logan Lake man is facing a variety of assault charges after an alleged stabbing at the Madeira Park Legion Tuesday night.

Just after 9:30 p.m. Tuesday night, Sunshine Coast RCMP were called to a serious assault at the Legion.

According to Sgt. Gerry Webb, police were advised that a male patron of the Legion had been stabbed with a knife and the male suspect had fled the scene in a pick-up truck towards Highway 101.

"Witnesses were able to provide a description of the vehicle and licence plate number on the truck," said Webb. "While en route to the Legion, the suspect vehicle was seen heading southbound on Highway 101 near Secret Cove. The vehicle was pulled over and stopped near Sans Souci Road."

Webb said the driver and lone occupant of the vehicle was arrested after a brief struggle and taken to the Sechelt detachment. His vehicle was seized for examination. Police continued their investigation and interviewed witnesses at the Legion.

The victim of the alleged assault, a 66-year-old man, received a stab wound to the side of his neck in the altercation. He was taken to St. Mary's Hospital by paramedics, treated and released on Wednesday.

The suspect, Gordon James Fleming, appeared in Sechelt provincial court on Wednesday afternoon and was charged with assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm.

He was released on several conditions, including no contact with the victim and witnesses, a no go order to the Sunshine Coast, not to possess weapons or firearms and not to consume alcohol.
