Sunshine Coast RCMP have issued their first tickets under the federal Quarantine Act.
In a Nov. 2 release, RCMP said they were advised Oct. 29 that two people who had returned from travel in Europe the day before and were required to quarantine for 14 days, had visited two local businesses.
RCMP said they contacted the Canada Border Services Agency and confirmed that the couple had flown into Vancouver International Airport from Europe on Oct. 28. A police officer went to the couple’s home and confirmed the details and then each was given a $1,000 ticket for failure to comply with an order under the Quarantine Act.
“While the fines are one additional tool for police officers to help ensure people are following provincial health guidelines, the RCMP will continue to educate people about the guidelines and the impacts during this pandemic,” said Const. Karen Whitby.
