As the NDP government announces funding for 25 new accessible playgrounds at school districts across the province, the Kinnikinnick Elementary School is on the list.

On May 16, the province announced the sixth year of its Playground Equipment Program (PEP) with a $5 million installment of funds.

Powell River-Sunshine Coast MLA Nicholas Simons responded to the announcement with enthusiasm. In a press release, he welcomed $195,000 for Kinnikinnick and said, ““All children should be able to play in a well-equipped and safe playground. It’s where they can come together to explore and learn and stay active.”

The playground is expected to be built and ready for fun over the next year.

The province has invested $35 million to help build 256 new school playgrounds since 2018.

“Playgrounds are excellent for our kids’ physical and mental health, and are spaces where they can be themselves and express their fun-loving nature,” said Rachna Singh, Minister of Education and Child Care. “Our government is helping communities throughout the province with better access to modern playground equipment that will benefit everyone.”
