A home in Gibsons was a "probable" target of a drive-by shooting on Monday, according to police.
Sunshine Coast RCMP Staff Sgt. Brad Zalys said Tuesday afternoon that police are still investigating the incident.
Zalys said police responded immediately when they received a report of the shooting during the early morning hours of Sept. 25. He confirmed that a residence had been struck several times.
Zalys said he could not release the calibre of the weapon until their forensic lab in Vancouver had a chance to review evidence collected at the scene.
"Fortunately, no one inside the residence was injured," Zalys said. "The motive for the shooting is not specifically known at this time, but there is reason to believe the incident was not a random event."
Zalys said police secured the area on Monday with assistance from RCMP Forensic Identification Services and Police Dog Services.
"The on-site investigation continued well into the afternoon on Monday," said Zalys. "While this event could have had tragic consequences, events such as this are rare are unlikely to recur, and general concern for public safety should be minimal."
The investigation into the matter is ongoing. RCMP are requesting assistance from the public. If you have any information related to this incident, you are urged to contact police at 604-885-2266 or Crimestoppers at 604-740-TIPS (8477).
