Here are the SCRD's preliminary property tax rates for 2024

All Coast property owners will see the regional district portion of their 2024 property taxes climb over last year’s levels by between eight per cent and 13 per cent, depending on the electoral area.

In a press release issued Feb. 21, the Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) detailed preliminary calculations of its taxation rates per $100,000 of assessed property value for the current year:

• Area A (Pender Harbour/Egmont) $239.63. That is up $17.86 from its 2003 rate of $221.77.

• Area B (Halfmoon Bay) $265.25. That increased by $25.35 over last year’s rate of $239.90.

• Area B Islands $98.40. The rate is $11.32 higher than 2023 rate of $87.08.

• Area D (Roberts Creek) $271.35. The rate rose by $24.48 over 2023’s level of $246.87.

• Area E (Elphinstone) $269.91. A $24.92 bump up added over 2023’s rate of $244.99.

• Area F (Howe Sound) $293.38. That is the 2023 rate $268.35, plus a $25.03 increase.

• Area F (Islands) $121.04. The rate escalated by $11.21 over 2023’s level of $109.83.

• District of Sechelt $162.31. The rate rose by $12.81 over 2023’s level of $149.50.

• shíshálh Nation Government District $153.17. A $13.19 rate increase over 2023 rate of $153.17.

• Town of Gibsons $203.53. The rate is $16.61 higher than the $186.92 set in 2023.

Those levies will support the SCRD’s 2024 budget, which includes 101 new projects and 151 projects that are carried forward from prior years. The release stated, “Many of these projects are aligned with the SCRD Board’s two Strategic Plan focus areas of water stewardship and solid waste solutions."

Bylaw readings from introduction through adoption of the SCRD’s 2024-2028 Financial Plan are slated to be considered at its board meeting scheduled for 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 22.
