A former Sunshine Coast resident pled guilty this week to a sexual assault dating back nearly 38 years.
Stein Erik Iversen, 70, entered the guilty plea to one count of gross indecency in provincial court in Sechelt on Monday Jan 25.
Acting Sunshine Coast RCMP detachment commander Sgt. Russ Howard said the investigation began in 2006 when the victim informed police about the incident. Howard said the victim does have a "familial connection" to Iversen.
Iversen was facing four other charges including indecent assault and sexual assault; however, the Crown stayed those charges.
Crown counsel Trevor Cockfield said the charges were stayed based on the unlikelihood of getting convictions.
"It's just the Crown's assessment of what it can prove," said Cockfield.
After entering the plea, Iversen was ordered to report to his bail supervisor in Merritt within 72 hours. He must now have a pre-sentencing report done as well as a psychological update before sentencing. Iversen is due back in court to hear his sentence on May 20.
Trial date
Phillip Joe Jr., charged with second degree murder in the stabbing death of his brother Conrad Joe, finished his preliminary hearing Thursday, Jan. 21, and will soon face trial.
Joe Jr. must appear in Supreme Court in Vancouver on March 3 to set a date for his trial. Joe Jr. remains out on bail after being released Dec. 18.
Plea entered
Donald Hensler, 82, has pled not guilty to two counts of sexual assault.
Hensler made the plea and had his preliminary hearing scheduled for May 11 at his arraignment in provincial court in Sechelt on Wednesday, Jan. 20.
Cockfield said Hensler has elected to be tried by a judge and jury.
Hensler is alleged to have assaulted two women while attending meetings of a local support group.
Arraignment
Jessie James Aimee, the Sunshine Coast man now facing 13 charges related to allegedly using the Internet to lure underage girls for sex, has entered a plea of not guilty for the most recent charges laid against him in early January.
Aimee made the plea on Jan. 20 and elected to be tried by judge and jury, according to Cockfield. He must now appear for a preliminary hearing on the seven new charges on March 22 and 23.
Before that, however, Aimee will have a chance to apply for bail on the new charges at a bail hearing on March 2.
"If he did get released by the courts on these charges, he would still be in custody on the previous charges," Cockfield said.
Cockfield said in order to be released pending his trial, Aimee will have to get another bail hearing in Supreme Court on the previous charges
