Silas White will be taking on a new role in addition to serving as the mayor of Gibsons in the new year.
At the Nov. 7 council meeting, elected officials were appointed to serve on the Town’s select committees and as Gibsons representatives or liaisons for 2024.
White put himself forward to represent Gibsons on the Southern Sunshine Coast Ferry Advisory Committee (FAC), saying he attended a meeting with the FAC the day before when the former and current Gibsons representatives could not attend. “I attended and I got totally wrapped in,” he said, so he spoke to the nominated councillor and suggested a change.
In the meetings agenda, Coun. Annemarie De Andrade had been nominated to sit on the BC Ferry Advisory Committee for the Southern Sunshine Coast. Instead, De Andrade will be the Town of Gibsons liaison for the Gibsons and District Chamber of Commerce, and has been appointed to the Howe Sound Forum/ Átl’ḵa7tsem/Howe Sound Biosphere Initiative, and as an alternate liaison to the Sunshine Coast Regional Accessibility Advisory Committee.
White also represents the Town of Gibsons on the Sunshine Coast Regional District Board and will do so again in 2024. Coun. Stafford Lumley will continue as the alternate director. White has also been appointed to Gibsons Landing Harbour Authority and the Sunshine Coast Affordable Housing Society.
Lumley and De Andrade will both serve on the Gibsons & District Fire Protection Commission. Coun. Christi Thompson was appointed to the Gibsons Seniors’ Society.
Coun. David Croal was appointed to continue serving as the deputy mayor. He was also re-appointed to be the chair of the Advisory Design Panel for 2024, and will serve as a youth liaison, liaison for the Sunshine Coast Regional Accessibility Advisory Committee and as liaison for the Sunshine Coast Joint Child Care Council.
