A Gibsons man is in serious condition in Vancouver General Hospital after an early evening accident in Roberts Creek Wednesday night.

Sunshine Coast RCMP and emergency crews responded to the accident at the intersection of Highway 101 and Roberts Creek road June 8.

According to Cpl. Steve Chubey, the collision occurred when a westbound vehicle, attempting to turn left onto Roberts Creek Road, was struck by an eastbound motorcycle going through the intersection, thus T-boning the SUV.

"Both vehicles were going through an amber light when the collision occurred," said Chubey. "The 40-year-old Gibsons man driving the motorcycle was air lifted to Vancouver General Hospital with serious injuries and is in serious, but stable condition. The two female occupants of the SUV were taken to St. Mary's Hospital for minor injuries."

Chubey said the Integrated Collision Analyst and Reconstructionist Section attended and processed the scene. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor.

"This is the second collision in 10 days of this very nature," added Chubey. "Motorists need to be mindful and execute extreme caution when turning into traffic or going through intersections, particularly through amber lights."

Charges have yet to be laid and this file remains under investigation.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed this collision to contact RCMP at 604-885-2266 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
