After months of reworking the Town of Gibsons’ Strategic Plan, council unanimously adopted the new 20-page document at the July 25 council meeting.
Since beginning the review early in council’s term, multiple drafts of the strategic plan have been brought forward in three sessions. The plan covers 2024 through 2027, outlining the guiding principles and lenses for climate resiliency, sustainable service delivery, social equity and effective decision-making.
Mayor Silas White said he was quite happy, and commented on the “unprecedented level” of work that has gone into the document. Other council members gave credit to the continued efforts, though some commented that they missed face-to-face meetings.
White expressed his commitment to continuing discussions about the plan, as “it’s really important to not just put a plan on the shelf, and to make it a constant in our governance and consider it every meeting.”
Coun. David Croal gave credit to White and staff for doing the work without bringing in consultants.
Though White commented the process took longer than he expected, he said, “I think the final result is excellent.
“I feel really confident, especially with the conversations I’ve had with council, that we can all get behind this plan, each and every one of us. It’s something that works for staff as well.”
Coun. Christi Thompson added that they were able to agree on the bigger points, and they’re reflected in the plan well. Coun. Annemarie De Andrade also said she is proud of the plan.
