The Gibsons Butcher was named People’s Choice at the Small Business BC Awards gala Feb. 23 in Vancouver.

The Gibsons Butcher was one of two local companies that made it through as semi-finalists for the awards, being named in both the People’s Choice and Best Employer categories.  Soma Small Business Solutions was a semifinalist in the Best Company category.

The People’s Choice award is decided by online voting.

“We can’t express how grateful we are to have the support of this community behind us.  You all rallied and voted us number one. Thank you! We’d also like to thank our team. Our team works so hard each and every day to help us deliver our vision and we couldn’t do this without them,” said Shannon Vanderwoerd of The Gibsons Butcher.

The five-month long competition began in October, when over 600 small businesses from 61 communities across B.C. were nominated.

The winners all received the Premier’s Prize of $1,500 cash and a one-year all-access pass to Small Business BC education and experts.

“The Small Business BC Awards are a demonstration of the strength of B.C.’s small business sector,” said Minister of Jobs, Trade and Technology Bruce Ralston in the release announcing this year’s winners. “Our province is privileged to have a diversity of innovative entrepreneurs working hard to create good jobs, build better communities, and grow a sustainable economy throughout our province.”
