Gibsons business licence renewals must be paid, despite CUPW strike

Due to postal strike, Gibsons is not mailing out business licence renewal notices, but they must still be renewed by Dec. 31, 2024. Rate hikes are also included in 2025 business licences.

Due to the ongoing Canada Post strike, the Town of Gibsons is not physically mailing out 2025 business licence renewal notices. (They are however, sending out emails.)

To ensure uninterrupted licensing — and to receive a 10 per cent discount — 2025 licences must be paid before Dec. 31, 2024.

The town is asking that you do not mail a cheque for your payment and note, town hall will be closed for the holidays at noon on Tuesday, Dec. 24 and will reopen on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2025.

The 2025 business licences can be picked up at town hall, 474 South Fletcher Rd., Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The front counter only accepts cash, cheque or debit, but not credit cards. Please note that cheques can be put in the secure drop box, available 24/7 at the town hall entrance.

Credit card payments can be made online through Option Pay. Once your online payment has been processed, licences can then be picked up at town hall.

This year, the Town of Gibsons Business Licence Bylaw fee schedule was reviewed, as it had generally remained unchanged since its adoption in 1992.

On Nov. 5, 2024, council adopted a resolution to update the bylaw and increase business licence fees. The fee increase is reflected in your 2025 Business Licence Renewal. Council's resolution can be found here.

Editor's note: This story has been updated to clarify emails will be sent out for business licence renewals.
