On March 13, NDP MLA Randene Neill said better funding will improve access to essential community services in Gibsons and Powell River.

Throughout the province, 54 capital projects will receive $5 million through the Community Gaming Grants program, allowing non-profit organizations to acquire essential equipment or undertake renovations.
The Gaming Grants program funds come from general revenues of provincial commercial gambling revenue in partnership with the BC Lottery Corporation and distributes up to $140 million each year in projects and initiatives that cover:
- Arts and Culture
- Sports
- Human and Social Services
- Public Safety
- Environmental Conservation Sectors
- Parent and District Parent Advisory Councils in B.C. schools.
In a press release, Randene Neill, MLA for Powell River- Sunshine Coast, said, “One of the best parts of living rurally is the sense of community, investing in public spaces that bring people together and help foster arts and community is so important. I'm grateful that the province could help support these wonderful projects in Powell River and Gibsons."
