Here is your chance to devote a whole morning to random acts of kindness.
On Sunday, Nov. 12, the Sunshine Coast will have its very own day dedicated to random acts of kindness.
"The idea started a month ago when I came across an Internet site called www.extremekindness.com," said organizer Sharon Tron. "A group of 20 something guys from Victoria decided to do a kindness tour - a three-month non-profit marathon across Canada in a motor home committing random and extreme acts of kindness. They delivered muffins and tea to taxi drivers, babysat children, made meals for the homeless, gave hugs to policemen, massaged the back of tired office workers and visited people in retirement homes and hospitals.
"This inspired me to organize a day dedicated to spreading love in our own community."
Marlene Lowden from Coast Cable and Tron have been busy preparing for the event with the help of many local businesses. The well-known movie Pay it Forward is the theme of the day.
"The technique is simple - it works like a chain letter, but instead of forwarding letters you forward kindness instead," Tron said. "If someone does a kind act for you, you turn around and pass along the kindness to someone else. If you forward kindness to three people, who in turn forward it to three more people each, who do the same - in two weeks 4,782,928 people will be the recipients and generators of kind acts."
The event is called the Karma Crew Car Rally.
"Karma Crew is selfless work for your fellow neighbour. All you need is a team of two to five people, a car, a digital camera and a heart full of kindness," Tron added.
The Karma Crew meets at the Gibsons IGA parking lot on Sunday at 9 a.m.
The day is organized like a scavenger hunt and each team will receive a karma kit full of stuff to help each team complete the kindness tasks.
The event will end at noon meeting at Om Sweet Om Yoga Studio for a vegetarian potluck and display of pictures of the day. This is a free and non-profit event.
