Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) chair Garry Nohr is recovering in a Vancouver hospital after suffering a heart attack earlier this week.
Nohr has served as SCRD director for Halfmoon Bay since 2005, and was first elected chair in 2010.
SCRD chief administrative officer Janette Loveys said she’s been in contact with Nohr’s family and his prognosis is favourable. She also said SCRD staff and fellow directors are offering their best wishes for a speedy recovery.
Area A director and vice chair Frank Mauro is shortening a vacation in Europe in order to be back on the Sunshine Coast in time for the next scheduled board and committee meetings on July 13. Loveys said regional district business will continue as normal during Nohr’s absence.
Nohr announced earlier this year that he would be retiring from politics after the current term ends in 2018.
