A fire in the forest land at Daniels River in the Powell Lake area continues to burn as of June 30 and is now under control.
According to coastal fire centre fire information officer Dorothe Jakobsen, as of 10:30 am on June 30, the fire was 2.5 hectares in size. It was discovered on June 27 at about 1 pm.
“There was no growth but the fire size has changed to 2.5 hectares (from 1.5 hectares) because we have more accurate mapping,” said Jakobsen. “There has been no change in the fire’s size and there is minimal smoke.
“Today we have firefighters all working to suppress the fire."
Cause of the fire is still under investigation but is believed to be human-caused.
Weather conditions for fighting the fire are extreme and Jakobsen said the job that firefighters have been doing is unbelievable.
Jakobsen reminded people that during the extreme heat wave BC is experiencing, that there is a fire ban in place throughout the province starting at noon on June 30. The ban includes campfires.
