Sunshine Coast RCMP say they “responded swiftly” to a report of a serious incident in the Madeira Park area involving a firearm and threats with a knife on April 13.
Charges have been approved against John Allan Hegyi, 71, including pointing a firearm, careless use or storage of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, assault with a weapon, and breach of release order, according to court services online. Hegyi remains in custody, according to police.
Police say a call was received from a victim who reported a male had fired a shot in their direction and threatened them with a knife. RCMP officers attended the scene promptly and safely took the accused into custody without any further incident, said an April 28 press release.
During the arrest, police seized two long guns, including a loaded shotgun, said the release.
“The Sunshine Coast RCMP remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all its community members,” the release continued. “This incident highlights the dedication and professionalism of the officers involved, whose swift and coordinated response prevented further harm and led to a safe resolution of a dangerous situation.”
