The Sunshine Coast Film Commission has been busy collecting digital photos of the Coast and its performers for an online gallery, as well as providing information, scouting services and other film-related services to over 25 film productions.
The commission was established in 2003 when a group of people with a passion for the film industry and a desire to promote the Sunshine Coast as a film location came together to do just that.
Since its inception, the group has obtained a small grant, which was used to create a website, www.scfilm.ca. The site features a database and a comprehensive image bank of Sunshine Coast location photos. The film commission has collected over 7,000 digital photos for the site, which represent over 150 Lower Coast sites suitable for filming. The images are now being categorized, cataloged and encoded to be accessible from the British Columbia Film Commission website.
The commission has also collected over 300 photos of local performers who want to be considered as background performers or extras in any film shot on the Coast. Those photos will be available to anyone who wishes to film locally.
The commission also has set up another database of experienced film crew members It includes names and contact information for over 100 local craft, trade and technical people.
This information has been invaluable during the past year, in which the commission has helped over 25 film productions find the professional assistance and location scouting they needed.
The Sunshine Coast Film Commission plans to continue to expand its databases and connect moviemakers with the Coast and is planning an event in the near future to talk about the benefits of film production to local economies.
