A new footbridge is now in place, adding a final link to the waterfront walkway in Gibsons to allow people to go from the Gibsons Marina and Gibsons Public Market to Armours Beach.
Earlier this year, the Town secured a right of way across the vacant lot where the George Hotel and Residences is slated to be built to add a section of path between Winegarden Park and the existing walkway from the foot of Winn Road to the marina.
The access was negotiated after council voted in June to grant an extension on the development permits for the project, which will include a link between the existing sections of waterfront walkway when its constructed.
Council also resolved to have Town staff work with the developer to secure a permanent accessible waterfront pathway if the development does not proceed.
