A 35-year-old Langdale man has been arrested and is facing charges after alleged threats were made to police and the man's roommate.

Sunshine Coast RCMP called the Lower Mainland Emergency Response Team in last weekend after an elderly victim reported being assaulted on two occasions and threatened with a shotgun and a can of gasoline.

"Following an assault, the victim told police that the accused threatened to kill police and burn the victims house down if he called the police. The suspect was well-known to police and as a result, the Lower Mainland Emergency Response Team (ERT) was called to assist with the arrest," said Sgt. Russ Howard. "We cannot take any chances when firearms are involved, especially based on the nature of the threats we had received. The ERT are a specially equipped unit, trained specifically for situations such as this. As a result, the suspect was arrested at his residence and a loaded firearm was recovered."

The suspect faces 10 charges, including three counts of uttering threats, two counts of assault, two counts of assaulting a police officer, one count of resisting arrest and various weapons charges. The suspect is currently being held in Vancouver and RCMP are withholding the suspects name until he appears in court.
