The Sunshine Coast Natural History Society presents Garth Jones at its next meeting on Feb. 3.

Jones will be on hand with his elements of astronomy presentation starting at 7:30 p.m. at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre.

Astronomy is enjoying a revival and popularity today because of unprecedented advances in technology and the U.S. space program. Jones will focus on our solar system to give a sense of our place in the universe, the scale involved and the nature of the Milky Way galaxy. He will mention some of the present astronomy activities on the Sunshine Coast.

Jones is a retired professor of physics, who taught at UBC for 36 years before moving full-time to the Coast nine years ago. His research was in experimental nuclear physics using the Triumf Cyclotron. He is a board member of Elder College and is active in the Sunshine Coast Astronomy Club.
