Roberts Creek is the place to be to celebrate Earth Day on April 20.
Participants can enjoy an amazing array of local entertainment from noon to 5 p.m. at the pier, while learning about community and environmental issues. Local artists, vendors and food will add a festive spirit to the event. In honour of this fragile planet, organizers are encouraging people to ride their bikes to Earth Day and receive a free bike tune-up. Or take the Earth Day shuttle, leaving hourly from Davis Bay and Gibsons. Children always enjoy themselves at Earth Day, and this year organizers have added a couple of additional activities for the family. Annette Clarke, local biologist and educator, will lead children in a hands-on animal tracking experience, which promises to be both educational and fun. The kids' trading booth offers an opportunity for children to receive a "new" toy in an Earth-friendly way. Have your children bring a well loved yet little used book or toy and exchange it for a "new" toy or book. Diane Sanford, another local treasure, will also lead an educational stream walk. There will be free tours of the Heart and Gumboot Gardens. The tour meets at 10:30 a.m. behind the Gumboot Restaurant. Finish the day with Black Cat's special screening of Garbage Warrior at 7:30 p.m. at the Roberts Creek Hall.
