Police seized more than 17 grams of cocaine and a "significant number" of ecstasy tablets during the arrest of a 19-year-old man in Sechelt May 5.
According to Sunshine Coast RCMP Const. Andy Cook, the drug bust developed out of another investigation earlier in the day when police arrested 22-year-old Dusty Dickeson in the parking lot of the Wilson Creek IGA. Dickeson is prohibited from driving. According to police, he parked the car and attempted to escape. Police arrested him and allegedly seized a cell phone and a small amount of marijuana. Dickeson faces charges of driving while prohibited, breach of recognizance and possessing marijuana.
According to Cook, the investigation of Dickeson led police to attend near the intersection of Xenichen Road and Sinku Drive. There, police arrested the second man, whose name has not been released. Police seized ecstasy tablets, two packages containing 13.95 grams and 3.45 grams of cocaine, a digital scale, a cell phone, packaging materials, a knife and $2,300 cash. The 19-year-old faces charges of possessing ecstasy and cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
Cook said there has been an increase in ecstasy seizures in the past months on the Sunshine Coast.
