Coast Reporter, your voice on the Sunshine Coast, is up for three major awards from the Canadian Community Newspaper Association.
The CCNA is an association representing nearly 700 community newspapers across Canada.
On Wednesday, the CCNA announced its annual newspaper awards finalists and Coast Reporter has been nominated in the top three for Best All-Round Newspaper, Best Front Page and Best Editorial Page in the General Excellence category for newspapers in a circulation of 12,500 to 24,999.
Coast Reporter has also won a Blue Ribbon award. A Blue Ribbon award is given in the General Excellence category to the top one-third of all papers in the national competition, as determined by the panel of judges. The Cowichan News Leader from Duncan, B.C. and the Stoney Creek News from Ontario are also in the running for the three awards.
Coast Reporter publisher Peter Kvarnstrom said he was thrilled with the honour from the CCNA.
"Publishing the best paper we can is what we strive for every week," said Kvarnstrom. "This is a very proud moment for us at the Coast Reporter. Recognition on the national stage is a huge endorsement for the efforts of all our staff."
Coast Reporter is also celebrating the accomplishments of its sister papers. the Powell River Peak, Squamish Chief and Whistler Question.
The Peak is in the running for Best All-Round Newspaper, Best Front Page and Best Editorial Page while The Chief has been nominated for Best All-Round Newspaper and Best Editorial Page. Both the Chief and the Peak are in the same circulation category.
The Question has also been nominated for all three awards in its circulation category. Both the Question and Peak are up for several individual awards as well.
The award winners will be announced on June 5 at the CCNA's annual convention.
