Coast Reporter editor and associate publisher John Gleeson has been named as a finalist in the 2020 Jack Webster Awards.
Gleeson was nominated for the City Mike Award for Commentator of the Year.
The selection was based on five opinion pieces published during the previous one-year period: “Western travellers ride on carbon,” “Iron horse due for a comeback,” “Silent generation speaking out of turn,” “New MAID could serve mercy, murder, suicide” and “As B.C. reopens, communities need to know numbers.”
Also nominated in the category were Wawmeesh Hamilton and Gordon Loverin of CBC Vancouver and Andrew Nikiforuk of The Tyee.
Gleeson was the 2018 recipient of the City Mike Award.
Finalists were announced on Nov. 12 in 14 categories for print, radio, television and online media. One winner in each category will be announced in an online ceremony on Dec. 8.
