Just in time for weekend strolls, Cliff Gilker Park has reopened.
Flooding during the mid-November atmospheric river event damaged bridges and trails, prompting the Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) to close the popular Roberts Creek park.
While the public can now return, there are some changes, said an SCRD news release on Dec. 3.
“The flooding event caused substantial damage to two bridges in the park. These bridges, and trails leading to the bridges have been closed off,” said the release. “These closures are for public safety and you are asked to respect them.” (Click through the photos above to see a map of the closures.)
As streams in the park are still high and fast-moving, visitors are asked to be careful when walking near the water.
SCRD’s general manager of community services, Shelley Gagnon, thanked the public for their patience and staff for their hard work. “There is still a lot of work to be done in the park as we continue to assess damage from the recent flooding event and we appreciate the community’s cooperation with these bridge closures,” she said in the release.
The SCRD’s 18-day state of local emergency following the mid-November storm that wreaked havoc across southwestern B.C., ended Dec. 2.
