As soon as the “Leave to Commence” from the province is received, Church Road Well Field water can be diverted into the Sunshine Coast Regional District’s (SCRD) Chapman Water System.

In a June 6 email, SCRD communication officer Cecilia Garcia stated that “no major deficiencies” were identified in an 80-hour commissioning test at the site that began May 30. The testing was conducted by the SCRD in collaboration with project contractors Associated Engineering and Maycon Construction. She said the SCRD received no complaints from residents of nearby properties related to noise or other disruptions during the run test.

Garcia stated “The SCRD has provided the Province with all requested information,” to be issued the OK to bring the well field online to access up to 4.6 million litres per day. She noted that the regional district will be required to monitor Soames Creek for two years to support setting environmental flow needs (EFN) for that watercourse “in the long term." Increases to EFN levels could result in reductions to the amount of water that can be drawn at the site.
