Fifty businesses entered the Town of Gibsons Com-munities in Bloom Bloomin' Business contest. The five grand prize winners were announced on Sept. 26. Gibsons Marina, Howse's House Bed and Breakfast, Truffles, Blackfish Pub, Beer and Wine Store and the Westwind Gallery took the top prizes.

Communities in Bloom provided the winning businesses with a certificate worth up to $250 for their 2007 Business Licences. Acting Mayor Bob Curry and Coun. Chris Koopmans presented the prizes.

All the businesses that entered the contest were recognized for their valuable contribution to the "wow factor" in beautifying Gibsons. Runner up prizes went to Gift of the Eagle, Cactus Casuals, Haus Europa, Sa Boothroyd, Justa Cuppa, Leo's, Gibsons Garden Inn, Seamount Shell Car Wash, Cedars Inn, Bank of Montreal and the Village Store that had the most exuberant wall planter. Many honourable mentions were given for special features. Leo's Restaurant received a special mention for their creation of a resort ambience, Bank of Montreal for the most colourful, Dr. Bland's office for the creation of a garden oasis and the Wild Bistro Bakery for the best scented garden, to name but a few.

Judging for the contest was done by Diana Morgan, Pat Campbell, Katherine Magor and Greg Russell. Quality Farm and Garden, Sunshine Coast Nurseries and B and K Garden and Landscape were major sponsors of the contest, providing the contest entrants with a sizeable discount.
